The Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico reported below average size

The size of the “Dead Zone,” a hypoxic area in the Gulf of Mexico that no longer supports aquatic organisms, was reported to be below average and the fourth smallest area mapped since 1985. 

Since 1975, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists have been conducting a research cruise to monitor the area annually. The below average hypoxic zone is promising news for a healthy Gulf Coast ecosystem that has been impacted by nutrient pollution. | READ MORE
